Children in the United States are being prescribed medications at an alarming rate. Not only are medications being targeted at younger and younger populations some state records show infants less than a year old on drugs for mental disorders.
Perhaps this all sounds inauspiciously too Orwellian, yet according to a study of data on more than one million children with private health insurance in the January 2010, Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, the use of antipsychotic drugs with privately insured children, aged two through five in the U.S nearly doubled between 1999 and 2007.
Also nearly twice as many children in this age group were diagnosed with bipolar disorder over the last decade.
