Fantasy books often follow the same formula of a lowly person on a quest, who ends up embroiled in a war, eventually to find a bittersweet ending.

The Bitterbynde Trilogy follows the same formula, only with enough twists and language to make it refreshing, must-read for fantasy buffs.

The Bitterbynde Trilogy: The Story

The trilogy – made up of The Ill-Made Mute, The Lady of the Sorrows, and The Battle of Evernight – follows the tale of a mute, disfigured, amnesiac boy, who is found half-dead near the Tower of the Stormriders and put to work as a drudge. Eventually the boy escapes, and finds out he has actually been tricked – he is a she – and that there is hope for her to find a cure for her voice, her face, and maybe even her memory. This becomes her quest; and also along the way, to find the Dainnan ranger that she has fallen in love with.
